MMDR approved

Leicestershire County Council have approved their planning application for the Melton Mowbray Distributor Road (MMDR).  The northern and eastern bypass of Melton Mowbray has an important interface with work we are carrying out on behalf of Davidsons Developments.  Junction 6 on Burton Road, at the southern end of the bypass, is common to the southern link road that is part of the Southern Sustainable Neighbourhood. Approval of the MMDR is therefore a very helpful step towards delivering the southern link road, and the development it enables.  More detail available here.

public consultation

How’s that for screen support – presentation, industrial style, by Stuart Ashton and Claire Biddle of Harworth Group.

Yesterday was spent in the former pump house of the original Ironbridge power station, made presentable by some very hard work by Harworth’s team, and a fantastic location on the banks of the River Severn.  In the morning, stakeholders were invited to an update session.  In the afternoon, the public were invited to see the current masterplan and provide their comments and questions.  Public consultation par excellence.

first occupier for Mountpark Bardon

US fashion giant VF Corporation, which owns brands such as Vans, North Face, Timberland and Dickies, is set to take 579,000sqft of space at Mountpark Bardon.  VF Corporation was established in 1899 and turns over £9.2bn a year, operating in 170 countries and employing 70,000 people.  Mountpark Bardon is a 145 acre distribution centre at Victoria Road in Coalville.  We helped gain outline consent for 1.2m sqft of B2/B8 use on the site a couple of years ago, completed the detailed design of the access roundabout, since built by Winvic, and have recently assisted with the reserved matters application to ensure  VF Corporation’s needs can be satisfied.  Another step in the journey complete.

new medical centre in Barking

Working with Marchini Curran Associates, we have helped gain planning consent for this new primary care facility for the King Edwards Medical Group in the London Borough of Barking.  It will provide seven consulting rooms and an associated pharmacy. The development provides clinical rooms for GPs, nurses and associated support staff. Also located on the site are 24 new high-quality apartments accessed independently from St Margarets. Our work included the assessment of local transport modes, ambulance tracking, and the adequacy of the limited car parking in this highly sustainable location.

The Roundhouse – resolved

The Roundhouse pub on London Road in Derby is to be redeveloped for residential use.  Because it is in an Air Quality Management Area, a condition was imposed on the consent requiring an air quality assessment.  ADC Infrastructure undertook traffic surveys and calculations to assist the air quality assessors.  Our work was submitted as part of the Air Quality Report and the planning condition was successfully discharged.

Lonsdale Place – application submitted

Working with Marcini Curran Architects, we have supported the latest application at Lonsdale Place on Uttoxeter New Road in Derby.  The site was previously occupied by a petrol filling station and a classic car restoration business.  In 2014 we assisted Marchini Curran gain consent for a food retail store and 12 residential dwellings.  This latest application is for 82 bedrooms of student accommodation in four blocks. The proposed development will provide 10 car parking spaces, and hence the majority of the bedrooms will be marketed as car-free.  Our challenge was to demonstrate the sustainable location and its accessibility on foot, bicycle and by bus to prove the number of parking spaces would be adequate.

Crease Drove coming on

Work is progressing on the delivery of around 400 houses at Crease Drove in Crowland.  We supported four different planning applications (and one allowed appeal), and there are two others, each with a parcel of land one side or the other of Crease Drove.  All the developments rely on the upgrading of the road, which is only one lane wide.  We devised a delivery mechanism that was agreed with Lincolnshire County Council, and is now being implemented to deliver the road widening and houses.

Northampton Gateway SRFI examination closes

Following an intensive 6 months, the DCO Examination for Northampton Gateway Strategic Rail Freight Interchange closed on 9 April 2019. This concludes nearly 3 years of work for us, during which we developed and agreed the transport mitigation package for the scheme with Highways England and Northamptonshire County Council – including a major upgrade of M1 J15 and the A45, and a bypass for the village of Roade. We prepared the Transport Assessment and Technical Notes that supported the Environmental Statement, attended various consultation events with the public, parish councils and other stakeholders, and provided expert witness services throughout the Examination and at the hearings held by the Planning Inspectorate. We now have to wait until 9 October for the Planning Inspectorate to make their recommendation to the Secretary of State for Transport, and for the Secretary of State to make the final decision.

Silver Spinney Farm – approved

Working with Pegasus Group, ADC Infrastructure provided highways advice to support the successful application for a new battery storage facility at Silver Spinney Farm in Deanshanger, Northamptonshire.

The road outside the site is derestricted and high vehicle speeds could have precluded development. ADC provided the evidence to show that the visibility from the site access would be sufficient for the vehicle speeds. We also undertook vehicle tracking to show large delivery vehicles moving in and out of the access.
