At Ashfield District Council’s first physical committee, the Council approved Westerman’s application for 69 dwellings on Clare Road in Sutton in Ashfield. The application was supported by our Flood Risk Assessment and Drainage Strategy, and Transport Statement. Formerly a draft allocation in the now withdrawn 2016 plan, the Councillor’s agreed that the benefits of delivering houses in the face of a housing land supply shortfall outweighed the loss of open space.
Steep gradients and difficult ground conditions have not prevented us satisfying the highway adoption requirements of Leicestershire County Council to gain their acceptance of a housing scheme at the end of Leconfield road in Nanpantan. Working for Bowbridge Homes, there has been a fantastic collaborative effort by all the various consultants to overcome constraints due to landscape, heritage, planning, geology, ground conditions, and ecology, all within one relatively small but challenging site.
We are pleased to report that our Infrastructure Design team has gained technical approval from Leicestershire County Council for a new roundabout at the junction of Kettering Road with the A6, at Market Harborough. The works are part of the package of mitigation required for the 850 house Overstone Park development by Davidsons.
A pictures from May 2013 when the feasibility of an access on Forest Road in Coalville was being contemplated. Fast forward to May 2021 and that access is built and houses are springing up.
A pleasant day allows some site visits in the sunshine, to see some recently completed works. We helped gain consent for Tungsten’s scheme on Bardon Road in Coalville, and followed that with the detailed design of the access junction. The S278 works are now operational.

We have been working for some time with Everards to support their plans for Phase 2 of Everards Meadows. Franklin Ellis Architects have produced some exciting plans, which are being consulted on in advance of a planning application: https://www.everardsmeadows-haveyoursay.co.uk/
Everards own around 170 pubs, and are building Phase 1, which will include a new beer hall that is planned to open on 3 June. It will stand next to a new brewery that will come online over the coming months. Phase 1 also includes the new Everards headquarters, Jenno’s Coffee House, and Rutland Cycling, which opened in 2019.
Phase 2 is the adjacent 70 acre site, and proposals include a new 50-80 bedroom hotel, and the creation of a mixed campus, with up to seven new buildings, set around a tree-lined square. The development will have a green and leafy feel, with landscaping and trees, alongside infrastructure for cyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles. The area is popular with cyclists and walkers who can access the neighbouring Soar Valley and surrounding countryside from a network of paths and cycles routes.
The site is next to Fosse Park, close to M1 Junction 21, and surrounded by major roads that handle significant amounts of traffic. We have been modelling the traffic impact of the development using a Paramics model, while liaising with Leicestershire County Council, Highways England, and Leicester City Council.
Clowes Group have secured planning consent for Phase 2 of their Forbes Park development on Fields Farm Road in Long Eaton. Erewash Borough Council granted the development of 32,946sqft of B1c/B2/B8 use. Our Transport Assessment supported the development and in particular focussed on the swept paths of articulated HGVs manoeuvring at the access and within the service yards.
We are pleased to report that Charterpoint have secured planning consent from Harborough District Council for a 73 bedroom residential care home on the A47 Uppingham Road at Thurnby. The application was supported by our Transport Assessment, the key matter being the design of the access, including demonstrating adequate visibility and road safety.
The ADC team today welcomes Jamie Cassie, who joins the Transport Planning team as Associate Director. Jamie brings with him over 30 years experience within the industry. Welcome to the team Jamie !
Northampton Borough Council have recently approved an outline planning application by Newlands Developments for the redevelopment of the Howdens Joinery site in Brackmills, Northampton. The proposals involved the demolition of the existing circa 1 million sqft building onsite, and the redevelopment of the site to provide new modern warehouse and distribution units.
The site is close to the Hardingstone Dyke and is at risk from surface water flooding. We devised a surface water strategy, in conjunction with the LLFA and Anglian Water, that sought to utilise the existing private drainage network and store runoff in a series of below ground tanks, so to minimise the risk of flooding offsite.
We also provided transport advice and prepared the Transport Statement and Framework Travel Plan that accompanied the planning application. We are now retained to provide transport advice on the reserved matters planning application and associated S278 site access works.
