In 2014 we supported an outline planning application at Thornton in Leicestershire by J H Hallam & Son Ltd for a development of 49 dwellings. Despite a recommendation for approval it was refused at planning committee in March 2015 because of housing need. An appeal against that application was submitted and while it was progressing a second planning application was submitted. Again the application was recommended for approval, but refused by Councillors at committee in June 2016. The appeal was withdrawn in February 2017.
J H Hallam have now linked up with Barwood Homes to submit a detailed application. We have again supported the application with a Transport Statement, and Flood Risk Assessment and Drainage Strategy. The most challenging aspect of the scheme is its gradients. There is a steep drop from the north of the site and we have prepared 3D designs of the highway layout to ensure that adoptable gradients can be achieved and retaining walls have been optimised. These were previously acceptable by Leicestershire County Council, who had no objections, and we are hoping on the same result third time round. BHB Architects layout below.

We have been working on the transport matters to assist the full application, which follows on from the outline application granted in July 2017, the completion of the Section 278 works in August 2018, and VF’s occupation of Unit 1 in May 2020. Construction will start immediately.

Harworth Group announce the sale of the first parcel of engineered land in their Hugglescote Grange development at Coalville. Redrow Homes have purchased 15.99 acres and intend to deliver 204 new family homes. The 250 acre Hugglescote Grange site, part of the South East Coalville development, has outline consent for 2,016 new homes along with a primary school and local community centre. Harworth are acting as the master developer and are building out the primary infrastructure to facilitate sales of serviced plots. ADC Infrastructure have been providing civil engineering design services to Harworth, designing the whole site earthworks, and gaining approval from Leicestershire County Council for the access roundabout on Grange Road and the main spine road.

The reserved matters application was supported by our transport planning advice, access design, internal swept paths and Framework Travel Plan. A planning application has this week been submitted for a landmark mixed use development in the centre of Birmingham on Broad Street. Working with Cerda Planning and Corstophine + Wright architects on behalf of 2020 Living Limited and Taylor Grange the application has been prepared whilst we have all been in lockdown, no mean achievement for such a significant development. The development consists of a 35 storey tower and a 6 storey block accommodating 440 build-to-rent apartments and a further 8 storey block accommodating a 229 bedroom hotel. Also included are shared amenity facilities with a large courtyard with multi-sports pitch and running track. The application is supported by our Transport Statement and Flood Risk Assessment.
