Northwest of the A46/A6 Birstall Interchange, Broadnook will be an exemplar sustainable development providing 1,950 houses and 50,000sqm of employment use, along with complementary land uses such as allotments, sports facilities, a primary school, care village, and retail centre. The hybrid application also secured a first phase of residential development in detail.
Our work was for a client consortium consisting of The Palmer-Tompkinson Trust, Cooper Family, Davidsons Developments, and Barwood Homes. We advised on highways matters, gaining agreement from three highway authorities (Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council, and Highways England) to a package of highway improvements and on and off-site measures to enable sustainable travel. The planning application gained a unanimous resolution to grant consent from Charnwood Borough Council in March 2020.
Since then, we have produced the detailed site wide highways, earthworks, and drainage designs to allow development to commence and a contractor to be appointed. A significant part of the design was the S278 works on the A6, to include a large new signal controlled roundabout.
